Comparison · Two different services

EA vs CopyTrading: what really changes

Running an Expert Advisor and copying trades may provide access to related trading activity, but they change who controls the terminal, how trades are executed, which conditions apply and what must be supervised.

Short answer

With an EA, you run software in your own MetaTrader 5 and choose its inputs. With CopyTrading, a third-party provider replicates trades according to its systems, account conditions and terms. Neither route removes risk or ensures that two accounts will obtain the same result.

Differences between an Expert Advisor and CopyTrading
CriterionEA in MetaTrader 5CopyTrading
InstallationRequires MetaTrader 5 desktop, an installed product and the EA attached to a chart.Activated within the provider's infrastructure and may not require installing the EA.
ControlThe user controls the terminal, inputs, permissions, updates and continuity. The user chooses subscription options allowed by the provider but does not run the original software.
ExecutionOrders originate from the account where the EA is running.Trades are copied between accounts; price and timing may differ.
Account and providerDepends on the user's broker, symbol, account, platform and compatibility.Depends on the provider's accounts, rules and copying service.
CostsMay include product, broker, spread, commissions, swaps and technical continuity.May include subscription conditions, broker, spread, commissions and swaps. Check the provider's current terms.
UpdatesThe user installs or applies updates made available through Market. The provider and strategy operator manage their infrastructure; terms can change.
RiskSettings, technical failures, market conditions and execution can cause losses.Copying differences and third-party dependency add further risks.

When to investigate the EA route

The EA route is relevant if you want to understand and control the terminal, test in Strategy Tester or demo, review inputs, and monitor Experts and Journal directly. That control adds technical responsibility: MetaTrader 5, connection, symbol, permissions and updates must be maintained.

When to investigate CopyTrading

CopyTrading may reduce local installation work, but it does not make trading passive or safe. Review the service provider, required account, subscription conditions, costs, copying mechanism and exit process.

RoboForex currently calls its platform Copy Trading Service, previously known as CopyFX. When you access it, the provider displays the applicable notices and conditions and makes the final availability decision for the account and service.

A checklist for comparing responsibly

  1. Confirm account compatibility
Check that the product or service works with the account type you intend to use.
  2. Read all costs
Review product or subscription fees, spread, commissions, swaps, currency conversion and infrastructure costs.
  3. Understand execution
Identify where orders originate and why copied price or size can differ.
  4. Know how to supervise and stop
Locate permissions, records, disconnection steps and support procedures before activating.
  5. Test without extrapolating
A backtest or demo can support learning, but it does not predict a real account.
